Lalanea Chastian, MPA, MSW, LCSW-A
Lalanea (pronounced Luh-Lane-Yah) has worked for years in case management, education, and foster care. Her greatest accomplishment is designing and implementing a workforce development program for Children’s Homes of Iredell County, helping youth in foster care become empowered to be independent, responsible, interpersonally successful, and to take pride in a job well done. While Lalanea has worked with all ages and needs, she has a special interest in working with adolescents and their families. Lalanea has a core belief that when given tools, encouragement, trust, and opportunity, virtually anyone can achieve their wishes, dreams, and goals.
Lalanea uses dialectical behavior therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, and person-centered therapy. She takes an eclectic approach to therapy and determines which method is best suited for each client. She works with ages 13 to 113, with a focus on emotion dysregulation, addiction, depression, anxiety, and parents and families.
Learning about Dialectical Behavior Therapy guided Lalanea to shifting her social work focus to therapy. She completed her practicum with Scott Spradlin in Wichita, KS, author of Don't Let Your Emotions Run Your Life: How Dialectical Therapy Can Put You in Control and who completed DBT intensive training in Seattle, WA with Marsha Linehan and Linda Dimeff in 2000.
Lalanea has experienced significant challenges in life and has learned, grown, and fought for the peace she enjoys today. She knows what Hell feels like and is dedicated to guiding people out of it. Her path has looked a lot like the DBT path, and this is why the DBT perspective resonates so deeply for her. Lalanea believes in authenticity, vulnerability, humor, and honest connection in all things. She also believes that clients are the experts of their own lives and that they deserve to have a life worth living.
When she is not working, Lalanea can be found gardening, singing, and playing guitar, baking, hiking, kayaking, morel mushroom hunting, and practicing yoga. She has two amazing sons who are grown and living their best lives.
Lalanea graduated from Wichita State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Women’s Studies and, most recently, with a Master’s of Social Work. Between those degrees, she earned a Master of Public Affairs with a Nonprofit Concentration from UNC Greensboro. Lalanea is a North Carolina board-certified licensed clinical social worker associate (LCSWA) and a Kansas board-certified licensed master social worker (LMSW).
Lalanea is located in Kansas and is almost entirely offering telehealth appointments; however, she travels to NC as often as possible.
